I have finally got round to writing my first blog

Updated: Sep 22

First blogs are possibly the hardest to write, why?

Because as creative we work with our hands and minds to find the best way to construct different pieces whether it be a Wedding arch or a Farewell arrangement.

Life as a busy Florist/ flower farmer with a retail shop and Post Office is never quite no two days the same, it could be cutting and conditioning, making up gift bouquets, or arranging flowers for a natural burial or a Wedding.

The basis for all these are the flowers and foliage so cutting and conditioning are important and without the proper care, flowers will die.

So tips as to what to do.

Time of day.

  • If you are cutting garden flowers and foliage this should be cut early in the morning when they are fully hydrated or early evening.

  • Use scissors or secateurs that are clean and sharp

  • Don't use buckets that have not been cleaned thoroughly or contain old water.

  • Place straight into water as you cut.

  • if cutting Roses remove the thorns with a sharp knife

  • Clean leaves that sit below the waterline as foliage will soon start breeding bacteria.

  • Cut on an angle so the maximum amount of water can be taken up the stems.

  • Do not put too many flowers in one bucket allow the air to circulate and avoid cutting when wet.

  • Place in a cool dry place and allow the flowers to hydrate, before use, normally overnight.
